Genibo Robot Dog

The Genibo Robot Dog is a therapeutic, social robotic dog. It is designed to offer emotional support and companionship to individuals with mental disabilities or cognitive disabilities, or to anyone who would benefit from a pet but cannot have a live animal. The Genibo Robot Dog, which resembles a bull terrier, can act and react autonomously without command. For example, it will express emotions appropriate to the situation, and lose energy and fall asleep if its owner does not pay attention to it for more than five minutes. If the owner pats its head twice and gives Genibo a specific command, it will recognize the voice command thereafter and respond accordingly. Genibo will also express itself audibly; it will make happy sounds when its back is patted, growl when its sides are touched, and groan when its battery needs to be recharged.

Genibo has a control manager software installed in its system which allows the owner to control the robot's movements from a PC using wireless LAN. The owner can also photograph and transmit images in real-time, control LED in the Genibo’s eyes and add on new voice commands and emotion icons into the robot using the control manager. The owner can also use the remote control to move Genibo and make it do certain things.
